The Global Impact of AI and Emerging Technologies:

Transforming Nations from New Zealand to the Middle East

How AI and other technologies are impacting NZ and other countries, including the Middle East

The news coming out of the Middle East is largely about wars but there are other things too, mainly AI. To learn more about how AI and other technologies are changing the region, and making it more efficient, go to www.lcdmedia.net.

Then we’ve been working on some other stories too. Most are from New Zealand, from where I hail. Some are global too. Most are about using AI to not only make work practices more efficient but to make life easier for many, especially from Asia/Pacific.

Here are some of the stories: One of these is entitled: “Unlocking AI opportunities: why a robust data strategy is critical in a SAP world”.

The article starts like this. “AI is making headlines almost every other day. You’ll often hear about new discoveries, advancements, and applications around these technologies. It’s almost impossible to predict the upper limit of its future possibilities.”

However, the immediate impact on Iran and what it New Zealand has also hit the headlines this month. There’s a story entitled: New Zealand tightens work visas. New rules in place for stay, running business”.

“New Zealand is facing a concerning shift in demographics. There’s a wave of non-New Zealand citizens coming in, while more and more Kiwis leave the country. In 2023, migration of new citizens into New Zealand reached a record of 173,000, while a record 47,000 Kiwis moved out.”

Another is about the use in surgery. Most of what is happening is useful for surgery all over the world. The heading is as follows: “New Zealand researchers say artificial intelligence could enhance surgery”. This is how the article begins.

The AI in healthcare market is expected to grow significantly, reaching an estimated value of $173.55 billion by 2029. New Zealand is at the forefront of this revolution, with researchers exploring the potential of AI to enhance surgery and improve patient outcomes.”

In yet another article, the Minister for Digitising Government, Judith Collins, says the government could develop its own AI. The article’s heading is: “The New Zealand government could develop its own AI, Collins suggests

At the beginning of the article she suggests that “the government must create its own bespoke artificial intelligence.” She says: “The answer is, that I am aware of, we need to have internal LLM.” (LLM= large language model). That said, the development of AI is of strategic importance to New Zealand – but also an expensive undertaking.”

Like many people, I have been looking at the Middle East's many problems, mainly because I know it so well. I have been thinking of the short time I spent in Bethlehem a few years ago when I traveled there for a conference. I had dinner one evening with a Christian Arab family. I have never kept in touch, unfortunately. I wondered if there are any Christians in the West Bank now, given the heavy losses sustained there. Yes, the killings are happening in the West Bank, as well as in Gaza. I...

The war between Israel and Gaza has dominated the news for the past five months. At LCD Media we’re covering it from the point of view of people in the region, principally from Egypt, from Dubai, and a Gazan journalist living in India. There is a big difference between the way the British, US and other Western media report it and the Middle Eastern press, such as Al Jazeera for example. Looking at the different language that is used by the media in the East and the West is an article by...
